Seventeen years on, take a moment to remember September 11th 2001, where youwere, what you thought, how you felt. Remember the nearly 3000 innocent peoplewho lost their lives in a senseless, evil, and cowardly act.
Then, remember how that awful day brought out the best in us and proved tothe world what makes America so great. Remember the courage of firstresponders, remember the resiliency of New Yorkers, remember the kindness ofcitizens across the nation.
Today, as we face political divisions that can feel as vast as the GrandCanyon, remember how strong we are together.Remember that we are more alike than different. Remember that we all belong toone incredible community called America.
Tomorrow, reach out to a neighbor who disagrees with you. Do a small act ofkindness for a passing stranger. Show the cynics that we still aspire to ourlofty founding ideals. Let us conquer hatred with love, let us fight injusticewith determination, and let us trust that right makes might.
America, my home, my country, I love you. It is that love that inspires meto criticize you, challenge you, and hold you to a higher standard. You are thegreat unfinished dream of those teeming masses. We may have a great taskremaining, but I have faith that we will fulfill our dreams together.
God bless America.
