The American Dream is Dead

While this may not be true for others, because we may have differing definitions of what the dream may have been, for me the idea of the American Dream is finished.

I always thought the American Dream was that everyone had a different dream, and they could all come true.

That is no longer true. Not everyone is allowed to have a dream, and they won’t all come true. If some of us can’t choose what to do with their own bodies, then not all of us are living their dream. If religion is to become mandatory for children in school, regardless of their own beliefs, then they may not be living their dream.

We will all be living someone else’s dream. Not ours.

And that cannot be the American Dream. We each have to have our own. If we can no longer have our own dreams, then we are all living in a collective nightmare.

What does the American Dream mean to you?

I know we all probably wrote papers in school, years or decades ago, what we thought the American Dream was; what it meant to us. How has that changed or evolved for you over time?

Is your dream still alive?
